City Studies Linda Vista Library and Skateworld for Future Affordable Housing
Linda Vista Library and the Skateworld property are on the city's short list of 11 public sites being studied for affordable housing under the Affordable Home Development Master Plan. Together they cover about 3.2 acres near homes, shops, and civic buildings. This is the first Linda Vista land-use item that belongs on this news board. City staff are clear that no housing is being built there now.
Linda Vista's sites, and a separate school-district track
An open house on Aug 4 at Mission Valley Library covered this site along with Allied Gardens Library and the Barnes Tennis Center overflow lot. A library site would keep a library if housing is added later. The community survey stays open through Aug 28. It sits alongside a separate, slower track: San Diego Unified already authorized negotiations for about 294 workforce apartments at the Revere Center on Gifford Way for district staff.
Why it matters
- Public land in the heart of Linda Vista is the most realistic place for new apartments in a neighborhood of postwar homes.
- A library-plus-housing project, or educator housing at Revere, would add renters and traffic on Ulric and Linda Vista Road without touching most single-family streets.
- 3.2 acres is a real pad, unlike the smaller library lots elsewhere in the same city study. That is why this one is local, not a copy of the Clairemont write-up.
