County Seeks $20 Million Homekey+ for 96 Supportive Apartments on Paseo Del Rey
San Diego County is applying with Wakeland Housing for $20 million in state Homekey+ money to help build Paseo del Rey, a 96-unit affordable building at 610 Paseo Del Rey. This is a different project from the Otay Ranch Village 8 East 270-unit building and from Harbor Park.
What the project is
The homes would serve veterans and people with mental health or substance-use needs. City records describe 95 affordable units plus one manager unit, including 48 permanent supportive homes. Chula Vista already committed up to $4 million in HOME, HOME-ARP, and Housing Asset Fund loans. In March, Council and the Housing Authority pushed the financing-and-construction deadline to March 17, 2028. The $20 million has not been awarded. Palomar Motel, 27 units, already broke ground in January as the county's first Homekey+ job in the city.
